Gabriella

In May, Kayla Frantz came into my classroom with her daughter, Gabriella, to share with my third graders the
benefits of saving pull tabs. Gabriella was born on March 10, 2021, with a rare congenital disorder known as
Aicardi syndrome. There is no cure, and this syndrome occurs in 1 out of every 100,000 live births. For a couple
of weeks after Gabriella was born, Kayla and her husband, Josh, a 2008 New Knoxville graduate, stayed in a
Ronald McDonald Room located within Dayton Children’s Hospital, so they could be near their daughter. The
refrigerator was stocked, and they had use of laundry facilities.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton collects aluminum pull tabs from any container such as pop,
soup, pet food, etc. They work with Franklin Iron and Metal and First Street Recycling to turn those tabs into
money for families of hospitalized children.
Your support in saving pull tabs would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
